The Compawny of Kittin Oakenshield

'Kay, so. This is currently my baby.

Kíline, Fíline, Bomcat, Thrandmewl, Kittin Oakenshield, Bofurry, Bilbo Kittens, Mewrandir/Catdalf the Gray, and Balinese.

These are the concept sketches I have of the characters as cats so far. I think I'm probably going to give them all colored hoods like in the book to help with differentiating.
Now. Prepare for copious headcanon and mangling of Tolkien's works. XD

Dwarves tend to be small. While it depends on the dwarf, they are also often stocky. They're not any particular breed of cat; they tend to look like the small to mid-sized mongrel cats that a lot of people have. Their fur grows like hair in the places a lion's mane would, and also thickens around the whiskers (why dwarves are considered to be a bit dense; sometimes their mustaches get in the way of their whiskers and obscure their senses). It can be trimmed and styled, usually with the help of family members. XD When their fur gets long, it sometimes develops colored tips (ever seen fur that was one color at the base, but was tipped with a different color?) and darkens, making their "beards" and "mustaches" look like a different color.

The elves tend to be long and lean breeds, for instance Abyssinians, with skinny tails and thin fur. Their ears are the large thin kind, not necessarily more pointy than anyone else's but definitely more noticeable. They're taller than dwarves, of course. Their fur grows like dwarves in all places but the chin. They like to keep their cheek tufts long, though, sometimes with thin braids in it.

Bilbo is what is known in real life as a 'dwarf cat'. Dwarf cats in real life have legs about half as short as regular cats, which makes them perfect to be hobbits. In my headcanon, he's also smaller in body than the dwarves. Hobbits have large paws with thick fur that curls when it grows long. They have fur that grows the same way elf fur does, but they keep it cropped.

Men, and some of the Maiar (or wizards), are big, stocky breeds, like American Bobtails. (Catdalf is based off of an American Bobtail, though obviously without the bob.) Their fur grows like dwarf fur.

Ponies in this universe are used mainly as pack animals. Goblins are all Sphynxes. Orcs are larger and stockier, but maintain the same hairlessness as the goblins do. Wargs are basically the same as in the book. XD Although, I scaled them down a little for this universe, so they aren't ridiculously huge in comparison to the kitties. And...let's see... yep. Oh, and Beorn and the skinchangers are reversed, so that their normal forms are bears/whatnot and their changed forms are men. ^.^

And...the One Ring in this universe I was considering making a collar, but that would be difficult to slip on and off. So I made it more like a bracelet thing. Furrum/Smeagrowl (Gollum) wore it on his paws because in his long stint of cave-dwelling (instead of developing the tendency to go on all fours) developed the tendency to sit up on two paws, hunched over. Bilbo wears it the same way sometimes, but he runs around too much for that to be practical in most situations, so he also wears it on his tail sometimes too.

...I put way too much thought into this.

Anyways, I have some vague thoughts of making a comic of this, or putting together some parody scenes with the kitties, but I'm not entirely sure. XD So for now, just have my ridiculous headcanon and art.
